My grandfather used to do this. He was too cheap to build all the buildings he needed for his extra equipment, so he'd kept a 5 gallon drum of used oil around and just sprayed, brushed, poured it over everything and covered it with a tarp for the winter. Worked great.

My Hardley friends never have used oil, it all leaks out before it can get used.
